MAX SOWINSKI
EDUCATION
BSc. in Aerospace Engineering - Technical University of Munich, Germany
MSc. in Aerospace Engineering - Technical University of Munich, Germany
PhD in Aerospace Engineering - Delft University of Technology, Netherlands
ABOUT
Max has Polish roots and was born in Pirmasens, Germany, before growing up in Düsseldorf. He later moved to Munich for his studies, where he developed a strong appreciation for Bavarian culture and the surrounding natural landscape. Although his academic background is rooted in highly technical disciplines, he has always been drawn to creative work, which led him to attend architecture and industrial design courses in Italy during his bachelor’s studies. He was actively involved in study organizations and is open to relocating internationally. His long-term goal is becoming a leading expert in specialized technologies and to continuously expand his expertise toward interdisciplinary applications.
Objectives
- Development of multi-physics FEM models to study the performance of optical sensors embedded in smart FRP composites for SHM of wind turbine blades.
- Investigation of fiber–composite interactions, sensor obtrusivity, and strain/stress transfer under thermo-mechanical loads.
- Optimization of sensor performance and positioning.
02
Expected results:
- Predictions of optimal sensor positioning
- Analysis of the interaction between TFBGs and the surrounding composite to optimize sensitivity
- Numerical support to experimental strain sensing on CFRP monolithic and reinforced composites.
